About Breya

Breya is a 17-year-old Junior (Class of 2021) who attends Charlotte Christian School. She has played competitive basketball (travel and high school) since she was in the 5th grade. She has been a part of the Lady Phoenix organization on the travel circuit and played in the UAA circuit with the Lady Phoenix in spring/summer of 2019. Breya has played varsity basketball since she’s been in the 7th grade. Basketball has been her only sport of interest and she has excelled at it with a great work ethic and hard work as well as a competitive and passionate pursuit to be the best player she can be for her team. She has been offered by 12 Division 1 schools and is looking forward to being a student athlete at the next level. She is a member of Transformation Church and has a 3.1 GPA.

Beginning in mid-December, Breya began to experience some shortness of breath and fatigue when playing basketball. We thought it was residuals from a cold, and that she would begin to improve. She struggled in games for 3 weeks with little improvement, so we decided to get her checked at the doctor. They felt it was exercised induced asthma and a sinus infection, and prescribed her an inhaler and antibiotic. Following her game vs. Covenant Day on 1/16/20, she struggled while playing and had to take frequent breathers as well as had to be helped off the court to the locker room following the game. We knew something wasn’t right and took her to the ER. From there she was transferred to Levine’s Children Hospital and was given a diagnosis of Leukemia (Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia).

If we know one thing about Breya, she’s a warrior! Her competitive spirit has her in fight mode with the will to win in all that she does. With that fight and determined spirit, she will WIN this battle as well and leukemia will lose!!! We may not understand why, but we do know that our God makes NO mistakes! We trust in Him and His plan for her life (Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you [Breya], declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” She will fight this battle with God leading the way and an army of prayer warriors fighting with her! #BeatItBreezy #4BB #BreyaStrong
